The ReCrearte workshops -a program of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD)- are increasingly attracting new public and, above all, an audience made of children.
We had the opportunity to observe this last October 24th, during the workshop that took place at Sociedad para el Desarrollo de El Caliche (Sodeca), where a total of 20 people were in attendance.
The workshop began with improvised songs sung by the program coordinator, Bertha Santana, and the children, as a way to gain the trust of the little ones and to make them less shy. According to Santana, this activity "was very motivating and rewarding."
This first workshop of a series that is taking place at this institution, located in the Cristo Rey sector of Santo Domingo, included a conference on waste management and the opportunity to design decorative objects using waste, thus generating income for the community. Participants also learned how to utilize recycled material to create a bag that can be used while shopping, thereby reducing the use of plastic bags.
The ReCrearte program is a great opportunity for GFDD to work with the community during these workshops, which are intended to making more and more people become aware of the importance of recycling and, at the same time, learning how to take advantage of waste in the creation of tools that they, their family and their community can use.
