Boca Chica - On March 16, 2017 GFDD´s Program ReCreate, in collaboration with the ECOESUELA project of the Dominican Republic Institute for Environmental Law (IDARD, for its acronym in Spanish), hosted a workshop for a group of 50 students ages 8 to 16 at the Escuela Vitalina Mordan in Boca Chica.
The workshop, led by Lucia Marte, discussed the three golden rules, or the three Rs for the proper management of solid waste: reduce, reuse and recycle. The 49 students made bags and bracelets out of used clothing. “With this workshop we meant to support sustainable recycling efforts, while providing the students a fun and educational activity”, said Lucia Marte, the ReCreate coordinator.
The ECOESCUELA project organizes education programs where community members can gather to practice environmentalism and work together to support recycling efforts in their neighborhoods and local schools.
This activity was intended to spread knowledge about environmental issues among the Dominican Republic’s youth, and to teach them about good recycling practices.
