The Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) and its creative recycling initiative, ReCrearte, headed two special series under the framework of the 12th Festival Internacional de Cine Infantil Santo Domingo 2017 (FICI) (International Festival of Youth Cinema in Santo Domingo), organized by the Office of the Vice President of the Dominican Republic and the Children’s Library of the Dominican Republic (BIJRD). The 2017 edition of the FICI was celebrated from July 20th to 26th, 2017 in multiple locations around the Dominican Republic.
The DREFF jointly participated in the projection of animated film shorts directed towards the younger public, with the goal of promotion in the young attendees environmental awareness and the importance of the conservation of biodiversity. The following films were screened: El Cambio, Where Jobito Lives, PETer Plastic, Metamorfosis, and Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience, a production of the Global Foundation for Democracy & Development (GFDD). Afterwards, Reydi Moreta provided remarks on DREFF’s program of activities at FICI 2017 in the Aula Múltiple at the Children’s Library of the Dominican Republic.
The attendees enjoyed the film shorts and later shared what they had learned with Omar Shamir Reynoso and the coordinator of ReCrearte, Lucía Marte. The activity was also attended by special invitees such as Lorna Aquino, executive director of Green Love RD.
