ReCrearte, an initiative of GFDD / Funglode, focuses on the three R's of sustainability: reduce, reuse and recycle; and workshops focus on demonstrating and emphasizing the idea that recycling waste and transforming it into art strengthens both individuals and communities.
To this end the program coordinator Bertha Santana visited St. Michael's School twice in October.
On Thursday 13, one of the teachers of the center welcomed the program and appreciated the opportunity to present such workshops in high school, and spoke briefly about the importance of creative recycling. The workshop consisted of creating bags with shirts. The school principal witnessed the workshop and thanked again GFDD and Funglode for their efforts to transmit awareness through education.
On the second visit, Thursday 20th, the students were very enthusiastic and anxious to start the workshop where necklaces with plastic bottles were created. The young students expressed interest in participating in Globo Verde Dominicano Award with a short film.
About ReCrearte
The ReCrearte program works with the most disadvantaged members of the community, who receive training in the art of recycling and creating new objects from waste and simultaneously learn to develop an alternative source of income. The program revolves around the “three golden rules” (or 3Rs) for the proper management of solid waste: reduce, reuse, and recycle. The workshops demonstrate and emphasize the idea that recycling waste and transforming it into art and objects for daily use strengthen individuals and communities alike.
