For the second year ReCrearte, an initiative of GFDD / Funglode participates in the Colegio Loyola´s activities related to environmental issues. Dozens of students attended the workshop held on Monday October 17 on the premises of the academic institution.
Professor Diana Murcia gave the welcoming remarks and showed appreciation for the initiative. She also introduced to the new group benefits and opportunities of being creative and sustainable. The students put into practice the importance of reusing paper to avoid the pollution of our coasts. During the workshop they made paper figurines, which will then be used to make a Nativity for Christmas at the following workshop.
Bertha Santana, ReCrearte coordinator, explained the principle of the 3Rs for good management of solid waste: reduce, reuse and recycle. The workshops demonstrate and highlight the idea that recycling waste and transforming it into art empowers students, professionals, housewives and members of the wider community.
About ReCrearte
The ReCrearte program works with the most disadvantaged members of the community, who receive training in the art of recycling and creating new objects from waste and simultaneously learn to develop an alternative source of income. The program revolves around the “three golden rules” (or 3Rs) for the proper management of solid waste: reduce, reuse, and recycle. The workshops demonstrate and emphasize the idea that recycling waste and transforming it into art and objects for daily use strengthen individuals and communities alike.
