"The 13th International Book Fair of Dominican Women Writers in the United States, dedicated this year to the writer Kianny Antigua, was held in New York from March 18 to March 20, with the theme: "The feminine creation is auto reflective ".
The fair, one of the most important events of the Dominican writers community residing in New York City, welcomed once again the presence of GFDD/Funglode, which in addition to be present with a stand, participated in various activities and organized a workshop on recycled art through its program ReCrearte.
The fair’s opening ceremony was held Friday March 18 at the theatre of the Isabella Home Center, in upper Manhattan, where community activist Carmen Rojas received recognition for her outstanding work in schools and the community; Elisabeth Rosario, for her support to the youth, and Dr. Jorge Piña - psychoanalyst and metapoeta - who was awarded the Medal of Cultural Merit. During the evening, Funglode/GFDD gifted the honorees with two of its most important publications: New Perspectives: Dominican Republic and Lo Dominicano/All Things Dominican.
This year the fair was dedicated to the prominent writer Kianny Antigua, who won second place in the GFDD/Funglode Awards, in the category Short Story Professor Juan Bosch, with the title "Downtown" in 2011.
GFDD/Funglode, other than being present at the fair with its table of publications and promotional material, organized the Conference in the Commissioner of culture "Recycling Stories", presented by Bertha Santana, Coordinator of the program ReCrearte, who was warmly welcomed by the audience. During the conversation, Santana presented the work carried out by the GFDD program ReCrearte in the Dominican Republic and explained how it has managed to reach more than 6,000 people. Santana shared stories of women who have changed their lives by participating in the workshops of recycled art.
